Mountain Bike Page

I used to have a mountainbike when I still lived with my parents. Well, first a so-called citybike (bright red Giant) and later a more off-road designed mountainbike (dark green Trek, very nice). First one I totalled (is that possible? yes), second one got stolen (right in front of the town hall and police station ofcourse). Since insurance on the second one had been a problem due to the kind of lock I had on it, I never bought another one.

But, after doing some cross-country in France (Biscarosse) and some cross-country (and especially some downhill!) in Italy, I knew that I wanted to do some more biking. Finally I got around to buying one, and I'm quite proud of it. You can take a look at the pictures here, and these are a few of the specs:

Well, and more, but those are the most important things I'd say. The bike is second-hand, I bought the frame and fork from a guy who offered it through internet for quite a decent price, and a friend of a friend got me the rest of the stuff, and built it up to what it is now. I'm really happy with the result... and now it's time to put it to the test. More about that later!

Little update: I took the bike to a bikeshop because some things needed finetuning (rear wheel gears and the switch for the shock absorber). Only thing they could do was just give it a full service for 40 euros. Expensive, but I thought, what the heck, then I know it gets done well. Sadly, they made it worse. Okay, the gears are fine now, but somehow they tightened the brakes a bit too much (I don't like that much, tight brakes, I want them loose so I don't have to extend my fingers too much when going downhill - each millimeter you have to extend your fingers can be the difference between keeping your front wheel steady or flipping over), they tightened the steering cylinder too much (the damn bike makes creeking noises whenever I turn my front wheel slightly), and they forgot to put a sleeve over my rear shockbreaker (which is very necessary, to keep the dirt out). Back to the drawing board!
